Old Trafford cricket ground, the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, and Test Match Venue, combines history and tradition with modern sporting facilities. Following extensive drainage works, it was found that the ground became too dry during periods of warmth and low rainfall. Having identified a requirement for irrigation, the Grounds Manager, Peter Marron, approached the grounds maintenance staff of Manchester United FC to find out about the system installed at Old Trafford Football Stadium. This led Peter to contact LS Systems Ltd as the installers and service provider to MUFC.
 

Following a consultation to understand the exact requirements for the cricket ground, LS Systems Ltd produced a design & quotation package, and following further discussion and approval of the design the order was placed.

The system consists of 54 Toro TR70XT sprinklers installed around the perimeter of the square, and throughout the outfield area; the sprinklers operate in groups of four with each group controlled via a solenoid valve.

Around the perimeter, we installed 22 Toro 855 sprinklers, each fitted with integral control valves to provide supplementary irrigation when required.

Water storage consists of a pair of 10,000 litre moulded tanks, installed inside the machinery store, alongside the pumping plant & electronic control system.
 

The irrigation system has proved to be a valuable maintenance tool for the ground, and continues to be serviced by LS Systems Ltd
